Description of KU....Anguilla at a great rate!! We love it:
Anguilla, British West Indies ? Striking just the right balance between the minimalist cool of South Beach and the relaxed sophistication of St. Barts?with a generous dose of fun as defined by today?s most stylish travelers?K? is a spirited newcomer among Caribbean hotels. Located on talcum powder white Shoal Bay East beach and scheduled to open October 15, 2005, it is a project of the same accomplished team who has guided nearby Cap Juluca to its #1 ranking among Caribbean hotels. A luxury hybrid, all-suite K? brings a fresh and unique approach to Anguilla, combining sophisticated sensibility with surprising affordability.
Appropriately, K?, which means ?sacred place? in the Arawak Indian language, is located in close proximity to Fountain Cave, one of the most important Indian ceremonial sites in the Eastern Caribbean. A sacred sanctuary, Fountain Cave has fresh water pools and important rock carvings and petroglyphs. The peace-loving Arawak Indians surely would have approved of the thoughtful consideration that went into designing every aspect of K?, the hotel, from the physical space to the more elusive ?fun? quotient.
?In this area, K? will truly distinguish itself,? says partner Eustace (?Guish?) Guishard, who, in conjunction with Sue and Robin Ricketts and Ricardo Perez, crafted spaces that will naturally become gathering spots for visitors and locals alike. ?We?ve applied Cap Juluca?s winning formula to K?,? notes Guishard, pointing out the hotel?s stand-out features, such as a 75-foot beachfront bar, the longest on the island, that is poised to become Anguilla?s most fashionable ?hot spot;? with live music, dancing and French-influenced cuisine.
?We?re striving for an ambience that?s evocative of South Beach and St. Barts ? a fun, informal setting where guests are comfortable dancing barefoot under the stars, picnicking on the beach and having the flexibility to dine out or eat in,? says Guishard, referring to the hotel?s fully equipped kitchens and on-site provisions shop.
Well-conceived services and amenities will be a hallmark of K?. ?Luxury needn?t always translate to expensive,? states General Manager Delroy Lake. ?Travelers today seek superior value and an intuitive service experience,? he notes and, to that end, guests will enjoy spacious suites featuring kitchens, DVD and CD players, a ?petit? spa and fitness center, even a line of Indonesian bath products.
Light and airy, the resort?s 27 spacious suites, situated in five white buildings of one- to three-stories, each feature an oceanfront or ocean view balcony, living and dining room, full kitchen, bedroom (king- or twin-bedded) and bathroom. All suites are equipped with television, radio, DVD and CD players, air conditioning, ceiling fans and safes; some have a pull-out sofa in the living room, making them particularly ideal accommodations for families.
With an eye toward complementing the resort?s beachfront setting, the designers took a minimalist approach to the 775-square-foot suites. White and pale aqua walls and white tile floors form an understated backdrop for white furnishings and fabrics, including duvets and curtains. Color comes into play in the living room, where oversized royal blue, lavender and indigo pillows crowd white sofas. Drawing inspiration from the destination?s timeless style to create a true Anguillian sense of place, the result is a smart and stylishly relaxed atmosphere.
While comfort is a top priority, convenience is also a goal and, to that end, the suites? kitchens are well equipped. Each features a full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, cooking utensils, electric kettle, flatware and dinnerware. Likewise, guests can leave their toiletries at home. Bathrooms have a hair dryer, bathrobes and plush terry towels, as well as Indonesian bath amenities, including shampoo, conditioner and body lotion.
Recreation Aplenty
When guests are inspired to leave the comfort of their suite, they?ll find no shortage of recreational diversions. K? boasts an enviable beachfront location on exquisite Shoal Bay East. Often cited as one of the world?s finest beaches, it is fringed by sea grape trees and coconut palms bordered by an azure sea. Its pristine, powder-white sand and gentle surf make it a sought-after destination for beach-goers.
The Shoal Bay Scuba Center is located on-site and rents dive and snorkel gear. The dive master stands ready to take guests to sites near and far, including the numerous reefs, wrecks and walls that surround the island. Divers and snorkelers will enjoy colorful reefs just a short swim from the resort. To glimpse the underwater action without effort, a glass bottom boat is located steps from the K?. Deep sea fishing is also easily arranged.
The hotel?s free-form freshwater pool is strategically located on the beachfront, ideal for guests who can?t decide where to curl up with their bestseller. Nearby, the
?petit? spa and gym addresses guests? fitness and relaxation needs. The gym is equipped with treadmills, step machine and Universal weight machine; in the spa, guests can schedule massages, facials and other popular body treatments. The boutique carries gifts, casual clothing and sundries.
For island adventurers, K??s full-service concierge makes all the necessary arrangements for land and sea excursions and even sends guests along with customized picnic lunches. Among the must-see sights: the fully-restored Wallblake House which was built in 1787 and the only surviving plantation house on Anguilla; the Heritage Collection, which takes visitors through the island?s historical past; the numerous art galleries scattered about Anguilla?s 35 square miles; and, of course, boat trips to one of the nearby cays for snorkeling and a barbecue or picnic lunch.
A New Star on the Culinary Scene
K??s cuisine is reason enough to stay close by, however. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, its picturesque beachfront restaurant and bar is a fashionable retreat for guests and visitors, whether enjoying early morning coffee or cocktails with an incomparable view of the setting sun.
Continental breakfast is served here or in the guest suite daily. For lunch, the restaurant offers a casual menu of sandwiches, salads, barbecued chicken, fish and hamburgers. On Sundays and on several evenings during the week, a local band creates an especially festive ambiance. In the evening, Caribbean cuisine with a French accent is served and pre- and post-dinner dancing, barefoot under the stars, is encouraged.
