Description of The Rams Head Inn:
Shelter Island, as the name suggests, is a particular kind of haven. Just south of Long Island's North Fork, it's the sort of place where the 2,500 year-round residents really do know one another's names, and where classic summer houses coexist happily with swaths of wild grasses, dunes, and horse farms.?The Ram's Head Inn embodies everything that is best about the island. The cedar-shingled house sits on a hill overlooking a spit of land with water on either side. From the back porch, you can look across Coecles Harbor and spot ospreys and their nests, large and saucer-shaped high atop telephone poles....? .Built in 1929, the Ram's Head Inn is a gracious center hall colonial with seventeen guest rooms, several common areas, and recreational facilities. It's surrounded by long sweeping lawns and glorious gardens. Or you can rent bicycles and head into town for sandwiches at Island Food Center, or ride to Dering Harbor, with its grand houses and yachts. The inn's 17 rooms are spacious and quaint; you can imagine them having housed generations of New Englanders. The restaurant serves everything from omelettes to lobster to pistachio pie. If you want to head to the beach, it's just steps away, and your footprints may well be the only ones on it.

Rental Notes:
All rates are based on a two-night weekend stay and include a buffet continental breakfast, use of the tennis court, the stable of boats, the fitness center, and the sauna. There is a two-night minimum stay on weekends year round. Holiday weekends may require additional nights. There will be a $25 charge for an additional person in the room, though there is no charge for a porta-crib. Special rates are available Sunday ~ Thursday. All rates are subject to change.
Check-in time is after 3 p.m., and check-out time is 11 a.m. We will hold your reservation only until 6 p.m., unless notified of a delay.
Complimentary Breakfast. Overnight guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast buffet in the lounge area from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Comfort, Safety, and Tidiness. All rooms have heat and air conditioning, as appropriate for the season. Each room is equipped with smoke and heat detectors as well as deadbolt locks. Our housekeeping staff tidies up rooms once a day between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Complimentary Concierge Service. We would be delighted to help you make arrangements to enjoy the many events and attractions on Shelter Island, the Hamptons, and Long Island wine country.
Room Service. The Ram's Head Inn offers a wonderful Room Service Menu, a new addition for 1998.
