Description of Myres Castle:
Set in the rolling hills of Fife, 16th century Myres Castle is a wonderful home and has recently undergone complete renovation to an extremely high standard.
Only 45 minutes drive from Edinburgh, the castle is surrounded by opportunities for playing golf, visiting historic buildings or exploring nearby scenic Perthshire. The secluded 40-acre grounds are beautifully maintained, making this the perfect place to relax and unwind.
The estate called "The Myres" is situated within the parish of Auchtermuchty. The lands of Auchtermuchty originally formed a part of the large possessions of the earl of Fife, and they were subsequently conveyed by marriage to Robert, Duke of Albany. However, in 1425 his son Murdoch, Duke of Albany, forfeited his estates to the crown. For a long time after 1425 the tenants of Auchtermuchty held their feus directly from the King, and their rents were accounted for in rolls of the Royal Exchequer. In the earliest documents referring to the lands o Auchtermuchty they were divided into two parts, named respectively the North Quarter and the South Quarter of Auchtermuchty, and this division was maintained up to the end of the 16th Century. The first recorded renter of the South Quarter,"The Myres", was an Englishman called Robert Coxwell who lived at the Scottish Royal Court. There are over 100 golf courses...
..situated within an hours' drive from Myres Castle. The link between Myres and golf goes back to the very beginning of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (The R & A). No fewer than three members of the Fairlie family were Captains of the club. In recent years Captain Fairlie donated memorabilia diverse enough to cover a complete wall of the Golfing Museum at St Andrews.
This photograph, taken in 1899, from the family collection highlights the unique link that Myres has with the game of golf.
We have some of the most famous golf courses in the world within striking distance of the Castle, notably St. Andrews, Carnoustie, Ladybank and Gleneagles. We would be delighted to try and arrange tee times for you. It is always helpful if guests are able to provide us with as much prior notice as possible, tee times (particularly for the most famous courses) are difficult to obtain. As you will appreciate we cannot guarantee tee times but we will do our best to help you. The Old Course at St Andrews, operates on a daily ballot system.
There is also a complete corridor at Myres devoted to golf where you can see original prints, photographs, golf book records and medals; tracking not only the progress of members of the household and their friends but also featuring some very famous golfing personalities such as old Tom Morris.
Queen's Room
So named to record the visit by Mary Queen of Scots, the Queen's Room is simply and elegantly decorated in muted shades of gold and green.

Cooking at Myres
Imagine the luxury of eating a formal banquet in the splendour of the dining room, or the total comfort of a simple supper at the family kitchen table.
At Myres, you can experience both, prepared to the highest standards, using the freshest local ingredients.
The celebrated Lomond Hills...
otherwise known as the 'Paps of Fife' are clearly visible from the Castle and the conservation village of Falkland lies below. The usual approach to reach the top of either the East or West Lomond is to walk from Craigmead towards Leslie and rewards the climber with a view of Fife practically in its entirety.
Pitmedden woods lie to the rear of the village and cross the boundary from Fife into Perthshire. A multitude of forest tracks criss cross the hill and the entire area is a conservation area both well marked and accessible.
Take a half an hour drive and the possibilities become endless - the walks around the southern areas of Perthshire are glorious and there are far too many to list here. Needless to say staff at Myres are always happy to recommend walks and there are guidebooks and maps readily available.
