Description of Rivers Inn in the French Quarter:
If you have ever romanticized about a quintessential New Orleans moment, then The Rivers Inn is your fantasy. French doors open onto a lushly landscaped courtyard, a cobblestone fountain trickles softly outside your door, you unwind in the comfort of a nineteenth century bed and gaze at the beauty of antiques that surround you.
This classic Greek revival may hint to what lies behind its plastered, brick walls. But upon further inspection, each room echoes old world grandeur. Luxurious marble bathrooms, one-of-a-kind antique chandeliers, unique wall sconces and mirrors, originals paintings and custom armoires all create an atmosphere you'll find difficult to leave.
The private guesthouse features a landscaped courtyard with a cobblestone fountain, French doors, oversized shutters and lush tropical flowers. Rooms are individually designed, reflecting 19th century old world grandeur with antique furnishings.
Enjoy the originals paintings, fine linens, wood floors and luxurious baths; all Melrose Mansion services included.
Intimate, relaxed, private with discreet one on one service as needed..
The Creole home, designed in 1829 by architect James Freret, was once owned by Civil War General William Canon Rivers. Over $1 million worth of "lost" Civil War artworks from leading American illustrators and artist-correspondents such as Walton Taber (197 illustrations discovered), J.U. Davidson, Harry Fenn and others were found in the attic.
The collection, which revealed many new and unknown aspects of the battles and fighting men, was published as The American Heritage Century Collection of Civil War Art. Purchased by TMR in 1999 for $350,000.
