Chateau de Tail is set within spacious grounds surrounded by the stunning yet tranquil countryside of the gently undulating hills of Gascony. Coloured with the soft hues of mature woodland, fields and the vineyards of Madiran, the house and park dates from the early 19th Century and boasts a fine history as the summer house and country estate of a Napoleonic General. Formal gardens give way to orchards and parkland offering opportunities to wander freely or to rest and enjoy the rural setting. The building retains most of the original features and these have been beautifully maintained and decorated to the highest standards in authentic French country house style, using period furnishings and traditional fabric wall coverings. The overall impression is classically simple yet welcoming, recreating true country house ambience and hospitality. The sympathetic restoration of the Grange, formerly the grain store and stables, offers yet more space and is fundamental in creating an ideal villa for several families to share.
Ground floor main house: The two drawing rooms are of equal proportion and interconnect via double doors, although each may be accessed from the entrance hall. Both are classically and elegantly furnished with deep, comfortable sofas focused on elegant marble fireplaces, and beautiful drapery from the high ceilings to the polished wood floors. The south drawing room features wide screen television with DVD and VCR and has a large garden door opening onto the terrace. The large windows offer views over the park and woodland. The East drawing room is equipped with books and board games and has views onto the front garden and orchard. The dining room is decorated in French country style with the famous Toile de Jouie wall coverings, and has formal dining space for 24 people. Double doors open to the front of the house and the kitchen is adjacent. The kitchen is very well equipped and is of French country style with stone tiled floor, large marble work table, tiled work surfaces and a garden door to the front garden. The laundry is also fully equipped and benefits from a large sink and linen cupboards. The laundry houses a desk suitable for a computer, printer, fax/copier, with an ISDN line conveniently located close to the desk. The garden door opens to the front of the house.
Upper floor main house: The master bedroom features an oversized double four-poster bed and French doors to a pretty balcony overlooking the front gardens. The master bedroom (1) interconnects with a second double bedroom (2), sharing the en suite bathroom, which has dual access. The Green bedroom (3) has an antique four-poster double bed and en suite shower-room. The two Blue rooms (4 & 5) interconnect and share the en suite bathroom - bedroom 4 has twin beds and bedroom 5 a four-poster double bed. The Pink bedroom (6) has a four-poster double bed and en suite bathroom.
Ground floor of the Grange: The spacious entrance hall has a twin staircase to the galleried landing and double doors at each end, opening to the pool terrace and the rose garden at the rear. Double doors from the hall open to the large breakfast room, which has a fully-equipped kitchen and seating for 20, and doors to the pool terrace. There is a separate library, lined with books (principally French titles) and furnished with a reading table. A family bedroom (7) with en suite bathroom is located on the ground floor and is furnished with a beautiful four-poster double bed and a single bed. The family bedroom is accessed externally only from the pool terrace. A further ground floor bedroom (8) is furnished with 3 single beds and has an en suite bathroom with separate wc. This bedroom has both internal and external access.
Upper floor of the Grange: Two interconnecting bedrooms (9 & 10) form a suite. The first is furnished with a four-poster double bed, the second with a single antique four-poster bed and a single “lit bateau”, and they share an en suite bathroom and wc. Bedroom (11) has a four-poster double bed and an en suite bathroom with separate wc.
All bedrooms have been decorated to the same high standard as the house, and all have views over the pool and garden.
